A Special Message from the Senior Warden

Our beloved Rev. Tammy has many, many gifts that she shares with us.  She is an inspiring preacher and leader, and she nurtures us with her devoted pastoral care. Her devotion to her flock seems tireless.  She is always available when someone among us needs her, and she seems always to find the time and energy to lead the parish and guide us in all aspects of parish life.  In addition to serving as our Rector, she is the Dean of the Trinity Deanery of the Diocese, is on the Executive Council and Finance Committee of the Diocese, as well as the President of the Diocesan Disciplinary Board.  She rarely takes a full day off, and she has a very difficult time tearing herself away from St. Paul’s to take a real vacation.

According to her Letter of Agreement with St. Paul’s, she was entitled to take a Sabbatical last year after five years as our Rector.  She has now served a full six years, and it is high time that she takes her Sabbatical to allow her to rest and renew her spirit. She will be taking a two-month Sabbatical beginning January 17 (which is about half the time she is currently entitled to for sabbatical, vacation, and continuing education), and she will return to us in mid-March.  She will take the other half of her accrued Sabbatical in early 2026.  During her absence, Rev. Ashley Simpson will lead worship and tend to our pastoral needs, and the Senior Warden will preside over the Church.  We have a strong team of staff and lay leadership, and the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s will continue in all its fullness.

The purpose of the Sabbatical for clergy is to enable them to step away from their regular parish duties for a significant block of time to rest and renew their souls.  This enables them to better take care of their flock upon their return and to share their renewed spirit with their congregations.  For this reason, sabbaticals are routinely included in letters of agreement for clergy.  Although we will surely miss Tammy while she is away, she needs this time for repose and rejuvenation.  Please join me in expressing our joy that she is taking this time for herself and that we will all do our part to tend to one another in this community while she is away.

Peace,
Jane A. Gordon, Senior Warden
