Last night, the Carteret Education Foundation had the incredible honor of awarding the inaugural scholarships from the William Moore Davis Legacy Fund to seven outstanding seniors from East Carteret High School.
Created through the generosity and vision of William Moore Davis, this legacy fund was established to invest in the future of Down East students for generations to come.
Mr. Davis grew up in Marshallberg, earned his degree in education from Louisburg College and returned home to serve Carteret County students as an educator for 30 years retiring from Smyrna School - the very school he attended as a child. Last night, Mr Davis was present to personally witness the very first students impacted by a fund that will continue changing lives in perpetuity.
Each recipient was awarded a $3,000 scholarship as they pursue their next chapter:
• Waverly Carlisle — Education
• Addison Carmean — Education
• TJ Allen — Kinesiology at East Carolina University
• Jonathan Piner — Sports Management at Warner University
• Dylan Willis — IT at Carteret Community College
• Wesley Guthrie — IT at Carteret Community College
• Carter Styron — Heavy Equipment at Nashville Auto-Diesel College
This was more than a scholarship presentation. It was the beginning of a lasting legacy rooted in education, opportunity, and belief in the youth of Carteret County.
Congratulations to these students, and thank you, Mr. Davis, for creating a legacy that will continue opening doors for generations to come. ... See MoreSee Less
